Mapo Tofu Bear Lunch Plate and Tutorial

I made ma po tofu for lunch the other day, and plated it to look like a bear.

Ma po tofu is a Chinese dish from the Szechuan province, it consists of small tofu cubes cooked with minced meat with a thick spicy sauce made with beans and chilli oil.

I bought a pack of pre-mixed sauce from the supermarket, so I just had to cook the minced beef and add in the sauce together with the tofu. It makes a really yummy dish in 5 minutes. The sauce comes with varying degrees of how spicy it is,  and I tried out the mild flavoured sauce (although I personally would prefer the really spicy one!) The mild flavoured sauce is not spicy at all, the kids tasted this and they were fine with it.

It was so quick and fun to plate this dish. The snout of the bear is rice, with carrot cheeks and tomato ears.

Here is a tutorial on how to plate this dish. You may need to have a flash player on your web browser to view it.
