Children’s Day koinobori sushi bento

Children’s Day is coming up in Japan, on 5th May. It is called Kodomo no Hi and is part of the Golden Week in Japan. It was originally meant for boys only and used to be called Boy’s Day.

Usually there will be lots of carp shaped koinobori flags flown, and I have made a koinobori bento here. The 3 koinobori are made of inari-zushi (sweetened soy bean pieces called aburaage and filled with rice). The carp are decorated with sakura-denbu (pink), cucumber slices and carrot slices.
