Mouse and Haystack Bento

I made a bento of a mouse playing in a barn by some bales of hay. This bento was inspired by a cake I saw on Pinterest, and I had been meaning to try it out in a bento for some time.

When I saw this Maison De Lunch lunchbox which I had ordered some time ago, it seemed perfect for this lunch. The lunchbox has a cover shaped like a house, actually meant to put onigiri in the top layer, but in this lunch that shall be the barn.

The mouse is made of mashed potato, with grape slices and nori for details. The haystacks are from store-bought tamago which I shredded to give the effect of hay, and tied together with baker’s twine. The other compartment of the lunchbox holds sides of broccoli in a bucket, roast chicken and grapes.
