Snakes and Ladders for Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year is this weekend! Hate the CNY songs that are constantly blasting through every mall but love the festivities, food and get-togethers!

We will be saying goodbye to the Dragon Year and welcoming the Snake Year on Feb 9. Now, snakes are not my favourite animal (far from it) and little Ms Z2 also proclaimed she didn’t want a snake in her lunch when she asked what I was making, so I promised her a cute snake instead.

I coloured rice with deco-furi to make the snake, green for Z1 and purple for Z2. I added in big nori eyes, a friendly smile and party hat, so yeah, hope I fulfilled the criteria of a cute snake. To clear up the fridge, they have spinach and broccoli for veggies and some meatballs I made over the weekend. I will post the recipe in one of my next posts, its really simple!

While making the snakes I suddenly thought of the game Snakes and Ladders which I used to play as a child, so I added in a ladder made of chocolate bread. I know this is way too much food for the little ones, as expected they did not finish their rice and I saved their chocolate bread ladders for snacks.
